Students describe their expectations, experiences, and observations, as well as their reactions to their experiences and observations.
Students critically analyze their experiences and observations and, in the process, connect those experiences and observations with what they are learning in the classroom.
Students consider how they might apply the knowledge and skills they have gained. What will they do differently (now or in future situations)? What effects might this different approach have? “What?” “So what?” and “Now what?” questions are most effective when students are prompted to cycle through them several times during a course. Doing so allows students to maximize both the depth of their learning and the effectiveness of their work in the community.
